ABOUT

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) has more than 35 years of experience providing HIV/AIDS training to healthcare providers.  VCU is the largest and oldest provider of HIV education in Virginia. VCU began treating patients with HIV/AIDS in 1983 and established its HIV/AIDS clinic in 1986. The VCU HIV Education Program was established two years later in 1988.  VCU has been a leader in developing, executing, and evaluating curricula; networking and establishing relationships with community leaders; and interfacing with research, clinical, and other educational entities to maximize training resources in order to provide the highest quality, cost-effective training and education programs. Our program resides within VCU’s HIV Services in the School of Medicine. The staff and faculty have responsibilities with faculty, students, interns, residences, and fellows.

Virginia Commonwealth University is the MAAETC regional training partner for the Eastern, Central, and Southwest regions of Virginia.  Our catchment area is the largest in the MAAETC network, covering more than 10 hours of driving time and spanning from Virginia’s Eastern Shore in the Delmarva Peninsula, through Virginia’s Hampton Roads and Tidewater areas, across Richmond and Central Virginia, through rural Southwest Virginia, and the entire panhandle of Virginia to the borders of Kentucky and Tennessee.
