Special Projects Overview
MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center
The MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center (MAAETC) aims to identify and address the training and technical assistance (TA) needs of Ryan White (RW) program providers and recipients in USPHS Region 3 (which includes Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia). This is central to the AETC program, which focuses on improving quality HIV care, early detection, and ensuring access and retention in care to achieve viral suppression.
The MAAETC's work expands beyond the main AETC funding components into several special projects. Highlighted here are several special project areas in which the MidAtlantic AETC is active.
1. Collaborations with Departments of Health
2. Collaborations with all RW Components:
Part A: MAAETC engages with the three Eligible Metropolitan Areas (EMAs) in the region, participates in planning councils, and addresses unmet community needs to improve care and prevention efforts.
Part B: MAAETC collaborates with state-level planning bodies, focusing on training, information sharing, and capacity building, particularly in support of ADAP programs and emerging communities.
Part C: MAAETC works closely with Early Intervention Services (EIS) programs via a long-standing collaboration to tailor training approaches.
Part D: MAAETC prioritizes programs focused on women, youth, families, and children, addressing issues including perinatal care, adolescent health, and vertical transmission prevention.
3. SPNS Collaborations:
- MAAETC supports training, dissemination, and collaboration on Special Projects of National Significance (SPNS), including projects on practice transformation and aging with HIV.
