In collaboration with the Chesapeake Bay ANAC Chapter, this session will explore the ethical and practical use of artificial intelligence (AI) in HIV treatment and prevention care. Participants will examine how AI can support clinical practice, patient education, and care delivery while addressing privacy, bias, health equity, confidentiality, and the importance of maintaining clinical judgment and human oversight.
Objectives
- Describe current and emerging applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in HIV treatment, prevention, and patient care.
- Identify ethical considerations associated with AI use in HIV care, including privacy, confidentiality, informed consent, bias, health equity, and potential stigma.
- Evaluate AI-generated clinical information for accuracy, relevance, and potential bias before incorporating it into HIV treatment and prevention decision-making.
- Apply practical strategies for using AI to support HIV clinical workflows, including patient education, documentation, care coordination, risk assessment, and prevention services while maintaining appropriate clinical oversight.
- Recognize situations in which AI should not replace clinician judgment and explain the importance of maintaining human oversight in HIV care.
- Develop strategies to promote equitable and responsible AI implementation that supports patients disproportionately affected by HIV and addresses disparities in access, technology, and quality of care.
