Patients with HIV have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and major cardiac events. This course will cover educational needs for providers/prescribers, adherence nurses, case mangers, and pharmacists on HIV and cardiovascular disease.
This activity was designed to help bridge the knowledge gap for the healthcare team. Covering the updated guidelines and how to discuss information to patients. This aims to help the team employ strategies that would help prevent disease among their clients with HIV who would benefit from further cardiovascular disease prevention methods
1. Describe the increased cardiovascular risk in people with HIV
2. Summarize the evidence supporting statin use in people with HIV (REPRIEVE trial)
3. Identify current guidelines for statin use in people with HIV
4. Discuss ways to talk about the new statin guidelines with patients
5. Review data on statin prescribing in a clinic setting
