Description

Description This session provides a foundational overview of HIV for individuals without a clinical background and for those in linkage to care. It is designed to build comfort and understanding around basic HIV concepts, including transmission, prevention, treatment, and the importance of reducing stigma in healthcare settings. Participants will also explore how administrative and support staff play a critical role in creating a welcoming, informed, and confidential environment for individuals affected by HIV.
 
Objectives: 
  • Describe basic HIV concepts, including what HIV is and how it differs from AIDS.
  • Identify how HIV is and is not transmitted, to help reduce stigma and misinformation.
  • Summarize key prevention and treatment concepts, including testing, PrEP/PEP, and the importance of early treatment (U=U).
  • Recognize the role of administrative staff in supporting HIV care, including maintaining confidentiality and promoting a stigma-free environment.
