Course Description: During this session, pediatric infectious disease expert, Dr. Ericka Peak, will provide an overview of current WHO, NIH, and CDC guidelines for HIV and breastfeeding.
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Describe current WHO, NIH, and CDC recommendations regarding breastfeeding for individuals with HIV who are virally suppressed on effective antiretroviral therapy.
- Evaluate clinical and treatment-related factors, including ART adherence and viral load, that influence the risk of HIV transmission during breastfeeding.
- Apply updated national guidelines to counsel individuals with HIV on infant feeding options using evidence-based, patient-centered approaches.
- Collaborate across disciplines to support consistent counseling, medication adherence, and psychosocial considerations aligned with current HIV care standards.
