The MAAETC Preceptorship Clinical Scholars Program offers a new intensive and experiential learning opportunity that connects traditional didactic education, case-based learning, and evidence-based clinical practice.

This program will feature interactive virtual training led by regional HIV experts, combined with local hands-on education and skill development.

Preceptorship Components:

1. Didactic 2-Day Session: 13.0 hours of comprehensive HIV training with regional clinical experts.

2. Experiential On-Site Learning with Preceptors: Each MAAETC Local Partner Site will host this component, coordinating learning experiences with appropriate clinical preceptors.

3. Clinical Content: The educational topics covered will include, but are not limited to, the initial patient encounter, ART prescribing, interactions between STIs and HIV, Mpox, viral hepatitis, prevention strategies, PrEP/PEP, co-morbidities, co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, medication optimization, resistance testing, chronic disease management, adherence strategies, motivational interviewing, primary care, and immunizations.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs):

In order to receive a certificate of attendance or continuing education credits, the required evaluation must be completed and submitted to MAAETC staff in a timely manner.
Continuing Education credits issued for participation in CE activity may not apply toward license renewal in all states. It is the responsibility of each participant to verify the requirements of their state licensing board(s).

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the MidAtlantic AETC and VCU Health. VCU Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. VCU Health designates this live activity for a maximum of 13.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. VCU Health awards 13.0 hours of participation (equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM) to each non-physician participant who successfully completes this educational activity.

This activity provides 13.0 contact hours (13.0 CEUs) of continuing education credit. ACPE Universal Activity Number NOTE FOR PHARMACISTS: Upon closing of the online evaluation, VCU Health CE will upload the pharmacy-related continuing education information to CPE Monitor within 60 days. Per ACPE rules, VCU Health CE does not have access nor the ability to upload credits requested after the evaluation closes. It is the responsibility of the pharmacist or pharmacy technician to provide the correct information [NABP ePID and DOB (in MMDD format)] in order to receive credit for participating in a CE activity.

The program is intended for clinicians employed within the MidAtlantic region, particularly those involved in HIV testing, treatment, and supportive services.
