The training content has been tailored to meet the educational needs of clinical and non-clinical personnel.

Learning Objectives:
Session 1: Foundations of HIV
- Describe the different ways HIV is transmitted.
- Identify the signs and symptoms of acute HIV infection.
- Discuss the course of HIV disease with and without ART.
Session 2: HIV Screening, Prevention, and Linkage to Care
- Discuss the importance of routine screening in HIV prevention, including its role in status awareness, viral suppression, and health outcomes.
- Identify strategies for preventing HIV, including pre-exposure prophylaxis, post-exposure prophylaxis, and treatment as prevention.
- Describe effective strategies and local resources for facilitating linkage to care and rapid-start ART.
Session 3: Exploring the Essentials of HIV, STIs, & Viral Hepatitis
- Compare disease trends, clinical signs, and transmission routes for HIV, viral hepatitis, and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
- Review national guidelines for screening, testing, and treating STIs and HCV for persons with or without HIV.
- Discuss strategies for HIV/STI prevention and control.
Session 4: HIV & Aging: Optimizing Care and Treatment
- Discuss the interplay of HIV and the aging process within the framework of accelerated and accentuated aging.
- Describe the physiological changes and common comorbidities associated with aging in people with HIV and the implications for disease management and treatment.
- Discuss clinical strategies and innovative approaches for enhancing care in patients with HIV as they age.
Accreditation:
- Continuing Nursing Education (CNE): The MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association Approver Unit an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This event is eligible for 3.5 credit hours.
