This dynamic, 2-day virtual capacity-building session will focus on enhancing participants' knowledge of motivational interviewing (MI) as an evidence-based practice and its application in working with individuals with HIV. Through interactive activities and expert guidance, participants will explore the foundational principles of Motivational Interviewing (MI), its relevance to HIV care and prevention, the stages of change, and effective techniques to enhance clients' readiness for change.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this training, the learner will be able to:
- Define Motivational Interviewing (MI) and its development as an evidence-based practice.
- Describe the role of Motivational Interviewing in person-centered treatment.
- Discuss common barriers to proper HIV prevention and care and how MI can be applied to empower clients.
- Identify the core principles of motivational interviewing and their application in HIV prevention and care.
- Describe the foundational models and framework of MI and how to identify stages of change in clients.
- Illustrate the use of MI core skills and concepts when speaking with clients to improve adherence and strengthen engagement in care.
- Demonstrate strategies to explore, amplify, and resolve a client’s ambivalence to change using case studies.
- Demonstrate the use of MI approaches in HIV prevention, care, and treatment utilizing OARS and DARN CAT.
- Identify indications of client resistance and strategies to improve readiness to change.
- Apply MI techniques and approaches to client care utilizing real-world scenarios and role-playing.
ACCREDITATION:
You are only eligible for continuing education or a certificate of attendance if you register, attend the full program, and then complete all required evaluations within 1 week of the program.
Nursing: The MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association Approver Unit an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This event is eligible for 5.5 credit hours.
Social Work: This training is co-sponsored by the Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research for maximum of 5.5 credit hours. As a CSWE accredited program, Bryn Mawr College GSSWSR is a pre-approved provider of continuing education for Social Workers in Pennsylvania and many other states. CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE:
Certificates of Attendance and continuing education certificates will be sent out via email 4-6 weeks after the event has completed.
Continuing Education credits issued for participation in CE activity may not apply toward license renewal in all states. It is the responsibility of each participant to verify the requirements of their state licensing board(s).
