- Friday, September 27th from 9am - 12pm

Course Description
This program will provide basic training in health insurance basics, Medicare/Medicaid & Medicaid Expansion, and SSI/SSDI/SOAR programs. This program provides a basic overview of TANF, SNAP, and similar social welfare programs, housing services including HOPWA and other programs, and an overview of VAMAP (Formerly ADAP)
This program is designed for eligibility specialists, medical and non-medical case managers, housing case managers, CHARLI case managers, patient navigators, community health workers, nurses, and support staff who assist clients in navigating social welfare programs. Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Correctly identify clients who may be eligible for Medicaid in Virginia and ways to enroll clients
- Define TANF, SNAP, WIC, and other programs
- Explain differences in eligibility and enrollment processes for housing programs
- Define eligibility criteria and application procedure for the four VAMAP programs available in Virginia

Explain the differences between SSI & SSDI

Identify what type of clients are appropriate for the SOAR program and where to find additional services for SOAR

Correctly name the various parts of Medicare, what's covered by each type, enrollment processes, and guidelines, as well as resources for helping to pay for Medicare.

Certificate of Attendance
Upon completion of this program, participants will receive a certificate awarding 9 hours of training.
This program satisfies VA Case Management Standards continuing education requirements for ADAP/VAMAP, Medicaid/ Medicare, SNAP, TANF, SSI/SSDI, etc. It also meets the training requirements of first-year eligibility specialists, non-medical case managers, and medical case managers as outlined on pages 5 and 6 of the standards.
