Course Description:
This course will examine medication options available for HIV prevention including Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), PrEP, nPEP & oPEP. It will also examine the impact viral suppression has on the risk of HIV transmission and the basic concepts of U=U.
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Discuss options for HIV prevention for persons at risk for HIV
- Provide patient education around HIV prevention services such as TasP, U=U, and medication options
- Examine clinical trials history for PrEP and U=U
- Explore payer sources for medication including pharmaceutical assistance programs and insurance coverage
- Demonstrate best practices for helping clients increase medication adherence to help reduce the risk of HIV acquisition (PrEP patients) or achieve an undetectable viral load (people with HIV)
- Discuss options for PEP, nPEP, and oPEP
