PrEP Essentials for Emerging and Community Providers
According to AIDSVu, there were 33,164 people living with HIV in Maryland in 2018 and 996 people were newly diagnosed with HIV. With an extremely low PrEP to need ratio and only 3,733 individuals prescribed PrEP as of 2018, we have identified a need to educate emerging professionals and new community providers prior to or within their first year of practice. The goal of the education is to prepare participants to immediately and effectively engage patients in intentional relationship to identify risk for and prescribe PrEP based using a status neutral approach.
