Discussion of HIV testing for adolescent girls in the Emergency Department at St. Chris Children's Hospital and how opt-out testing is no longer done routinely/universally. Pregnant clients are typically referred to other facilities as St. Chris does not manage pregnant patients. Many teenage girls are unaware of their pregnancies; female patients are tested for pregnancy if they are 10 or older, with at least one pregnancy diagnosed daily. These patients are often transferred to adult hospitals before an HIV test can be performed. Services for pregnant and postpartum adolescents, such as case management and programs like Nurse-Family Partnership, were highlighted and shared for referral.
