About:

The MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center, University of Pittsburgh Regional Partner, is hosting a half-day, hybrid training that will provide foundational education on HIV and sexual health history taking for clinicians at Erie Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Health Clinics.

Accreditation

*In order to receive a certificate of attendance or continuing education, all required evaluations must be completed in a timely manner. Please check in closer to the date of the event in regard to CEUs being offered for this program.

Continuing Nursing Education (CNE):

The MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association Approver Unit an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This event is eligible for 3.5 credit hours.

Continuing Medical Education (CME):

In support of improving patient care, the University of Pittsburgh is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Physician (CME) - The University of Pittsburgh designates this live activity for a maximum of 3.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Other health care professionals will receive a certificate of attendance confirming the number of contact hours commensurate with the extent of participation in this activity.

1. Briefly review approaches to patient assessment and engagement.
2. Discuss options for preventing HIV, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and treatment as prevention (TasP).
3. Define HIV syndemics and describe the role of mental health disorders, substance use, and STIs in disease transmission and health outcomes.

Objectives:

1. Review the importance of taking a sexual history and its role in HIV and STI prevention.
2. Utilize the CDC's "5 Ps" approach for taking a sexual history to identify opportunities to promote HIV prevention, testing, and treatment.
3. Demonstrate increased skills in taking a sexual history and addressing patients' sexual orientation and gender identity using case studies and role-playing.
4. Identify how to document a sexual health encounter and prevention recommendations or next steps.
5. Discuss diagnosis and CPT codes for billing a sexual health encounter.
