Objectives:
1. Describe the principles of perinatal HIV exposure and transmission.
2. Outline the epidemiology of perinatal HIV infection in the USA and Washington, DC.
3. Identify HIV infection in mothers, neonates, and infants.
4. Recognize the principles of perinatal antiretroviral therapy for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission.
5. Summarize the current recommendations for the approach to infant feeding choices among mothers with HIV.
