Addiction 101 & Narcan Training
Learning Objective: By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Science of Addiction
- Discuss the definitions and presentation of addiction and dependence.
- Explain the hypothesized pathophysiology of addiction and discuss the influence of the reward pathway
Naloxone Training
- Review and discuss the epidemiology of opioid overdose in the United States
- Explain the pharmacology, pharmacokinetics and available formulations of naloxone
- Demonstrate the use of a naloxone delivery device in the event of an opioid overdose
Engaging HIV Care in the High-Risk Population
- Explain basic concepts about transgender and gender non-conforming people to help healthcare professionals optimize care for their patients.
- Describe HIV epidemiology among transgender (trans) people in the United States
- Identify new HIV prevention strategies including PrEP 4. Identify barriers to engagement & retention in HIV Care
