This training session will be held in-person at UPMC Community Care's Latterman Family Health Center, located at 2347 5th Ave, McKeesport, PA 15132.
Training Sessions
By the end of the session, "Foundations of HIV," participants will be able to:
- Describe the different ways HIV is transmitted.
- Identify the signs and symptoms of acute HIV infection.
- Discuss the course of HIV disease with and without ART treatment.
By the end of the session, "Gender-Affirming Care 101," participants will be able to:
- Define gender identity, gender expression, biological sex, and sexual orientation.
- Discuss how to engage and retain LGBTQIA+ community members in HIV care (how to be an ally).
- Utilize case studies to identify gender inclusive strategies when working with people with HIV in the LGBTQIA+ community.
By the end of the session, "Understanding and Addressing HIV Stigma Through a Trauma Informed Lens," participants will be able to:
- Define stigma in relation to HIV and discuss the negative effects as well as the barriers to care.
- Discuss symptoms and impact of trauma.
- Identify trauma-informed practices that support people with HIV.
