Medication, Treatment & Adherence, Session 1
Persons living with HIV/AIDS face a number of social, psychological and biological stresses on an ongoing basis. It is important for providers to have an understanding and sensitivity to those issues when providing care. This one-day workshop will examine the major bio-psychosocial effects of HIV infection, in addition to the importance of adherence to HIV therapy. This course is designed for new case managers and individuals involved in general HIV care giving.
Objectives include:
MEDICATION ADHERENCE:
• Identify the role of adherence within the wider scope of HIV care and delivery
• define adherence in the setting of other similar concepts
• Explain the standard of adherence and it’s comparison to other health conditions
• Identify the categories of obstacles to adherence
• Discuss how to implement strategies, individual and institutional, to improve adherence
CASE STUDIES:
• Discuss patient scenarios and cases for potential adherence barriers to medical care and medication
