This course will meet via Zoom on the following dates/times:
- Monday, August, 10 9am - 12:30 pm
- Tuesday, Augusut 11 9am - 12:30 pm
Attendance at both days is required. This class is strictly limited to first year case managers in Virginia. All others will be denied access to this class due to limited space.
Program Description
Foundations of Case Management is a hybrid course designed for all new Medical and Non-Medical Case Managers in Virginia. This course is both a combination of self-paced online learning and a 1 day interactive course. Completion of this course satisfies the VDH Ryan White Case Management Standards of Services requirements for all first year case managers for training in "Basic Case Management Concepts, Principles, and/or practice; client-centered model of case management." (Standards, page 25)
The online portion of this course is provided through our partners at the Southeast AIDS Education Training Center. After completing your enrollment for the in-person course, you will be automatically directed the the SE AETC website to enroll in the online course.
Program Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Define various models of case management
- Explain the differences between medicla and non-medical case management
- Explore unconcious bias and demonstrate techniques for combatting unconcious bias
- Define basic Motivational Interviewing techniques
Intended Audience:
Ryan White Medical and NonMedical Case Managers working in Virginia.
Prerequisite:
You must complete the online portion of the course and bring proof of completion to class or email it to robert.rodney@vcuhealth.org to be admitted to the in-person portion of the course.

Please note: This course does not cover Virginia Ryan White Case Management Standards itself (i.e. assessment, acuity, services planning, etc.) That information is covered in Ryan White Case Management Part B Standards course.
