Conference Description:Welcome to the Sixteenth Annual HIV in West Virginia Conference webinar series. Your host is the MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Centers: WV Regional Partner. Due to the cancellation of our in-person conference, these virtual webinars intend to inform medical providers of vulnerable counties in West Virginia regarding the rapid transmission of HIV and other infectious diseases, importance of identifying people with HIV, discussions of the AIDS Crisis of the past and Intimate Partner Violence. Also, included will be faculty discussing issues surrounding the opioid epidemic. The yearly goals of this conference are to enhance health care providers’ knowledge base regarding the provision of health care for those with HIV and to augment improved patient outcomes for individuals with HIV. This webinar “Part Two of a Series of Six: Tackle the Epidemic, Not the Opioids” will focus on the question of why there is a raging epidemic of addiction.
The current opioid epidemic is a symptom of the fraying of the socio-economic fabric of rural United States. We will also look at the reasons why funding should be targeted to substance misuse, not to the drug of the moment.
Target Audience:The intended audience for this conference are physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, advance practice nurses, social work and ancillary team members. *For those not listed, please check with your licensing agency for credit approval.
