As a result of this program, participants will have increased knowledge of HIV, common STIs and pregnancy, both for clinical care as well as methods of patient counseling.
This program will combine didactic lectures, illustrative case studies and facilitated discussion related to clinical and case management topics to enable treatment and case management teams to provide the best quality of services to their clients and their region.
Program Objectives
• Describe current HIV prevention and treatment guidelines and standards of care, including common concerns and how to discuss them
• Discuss patient counseling methods on HIV clinical topics (medications, adherence, resistance, risk of transmission) through illustrative case studies
• Identify current guidelines and standards of care related to pregnant women with HIV, including common concerns and how to discuss them
• Describe current protocols for referrals and consultation between regional providers and UPMC Children’s Hospital
• Describe current STI screening and treatment guidelines and standards of care for people with HIV, including common concerns and how to discuss them
• Discuss patient counseling methods on STI clinical topics through illustrative case studies
Intended Audience
The intended audience for this program includes nurses, case managers, social workers, prevention specialists, students of health professions, and other members of the healthcare team.
