As a result of this program, participants will have an increased knowledge of outbreak response related to HIV/HCV infections due to injection drug use in rural areas.
This program will combine didactic lectures and illustrative case studies related to HIV prevention, care and case management in order to enable treatment and case management teams to provide the best quality of services to their clients and their region.
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Identify current trends in HIV prevention, care and case management
- Describe methods for applying HIV prevention, care and case management concepts through illustrative case studies
- Discuss implementation of HIV prevention, care and case management concepts at individual, organizational and regional levels
Program Objectives
- Identify key aspects of rural areas in Appalachia at unique risk for HIV/HCV outbreak related to injection drug use
- Describe the needed response after an outbreak, including harm reduction and ongoing support for local health care system
- Discuss implementation of outbreak response and the role of the local healthcare provider
