Join the MidAtlantic AETC for a comprehensive review of Public Benefits in Pennsylvania. As a result of this two-day training, case managers will have increased knowledge of public benefits that their clients living with HIV are potentially eligible for, including:
• SSA Income Benefits
• SSA Non Medical Benefits, SSI and SSDI
• Special Pharmaceutical Benefits Program (SPBP)
• Public Welfare: WIC and TANF
• Medical Assistance
• Medicare Parts A, B and D
Program Objectives
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
• Identify and describe two income benefit programs for individual who are HIV + and determined to be disabled.
• Describe the seven steps of the SSA income benefits application and review process, including presumptive SSI benefits.
• State one way in which expedited reinstatement of benefits (ERB) is utilized as associated with both SSDI and SSI benefits.
• Describe the two eligibility criteria for Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) and five eligibility criteria for General Assistance (GA).
• List four pieces of required documentation when applying for GA and TANF.
• Write a mock SSA ten day appeal letter while recognizing the acceptable time period in which one can file.
• List four eligibility criteria for WIC, as well as one way to apply for this benefit.
• List at least six medical, nutrition, social service programs that are available regardless of immigration status.
• Identify the eight categories of medical assistance eligibility, including two qualifications for each.
• State one purpose of the Special Pharmaceutical Benefits Plan (SPBP), as well as the four eligibility requirements associated with it.
• List three eligibility criteria for Medicare A & B.
• Describe the purpose of Medicare D as a prescription drug benefit.
• Express at least one impression they have of the Public Benefits training, in terms of effectiveness, clarity and relevance.
Intended Audience
The intended audience for this program includes case managers and healthcare professionals working in Ryan White Part B-funded organizations, and healthcare professional who provide services to people living with HIV.
