The MidAtlantic AIDS Education & Training Center's West Virginia Regional Partners' mission is to increase providers' capacity to provide high quality HIV/AIDS care within our health care systems. This two-day class is specifically designed to use role-plays and case studies to assist clients in making decisions regarding HIV testing. Participants should have a basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS prior to taking this course.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:
• State verbally and in writing the goal of HIV prevention counseling.
• Identify three concepts that guide the work of HIV prevention counseling.
• Identify at least three potential barriers and benefits to a safer goal behavior and the action steps a client can take.
• Utilize appropriate counseling techniques in educating a client about risk/harm reduction behaviors.
• Identify and demonstrate appropriate test-decision counseling in a practice session.
Target Audience: Health care professionals who will be administering HIV testing, giving test results, and discussing options for notifying partners.
